Products

  • BlackBerry® Devices
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
  • Microsoft® Exchange

Overview

Although the BlackBerry device user′s personal identification number (PIN) has been added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, when the BlackBerry device user connects the device to the personal computer, the prompt to generate an encryption key does not appear.

Resolution

Complete the appropriate resolution for your cause.

Cause 1

One situation in which this can occur is when the BlackBerry device is using the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector for email redirection, and the BlackBerry device user′s account has just been added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. The BlackBerry device user will not be prompted to generate a key. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server status will display(<server_name>) Running.

Resolution

This is by design.

Cause 2

Messaging Application Interface Programming (MAPI) is not communicating with the Microsoft® Exchange Server.

Resolution

The BlackBerry device user′s account is added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, but did not use desktop redirector for mail redirection previously. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server status displays (<server_name>) Initializing. The BlackBerry device user is not prompted to generate an encryption key.

  1. Create a new MAPI profile for the BlackBerry device user.
  2. Double-click Redirector Settings>Advanced.
  3. Click Profile Settings and selectAlways use this profile.
  4. Select the new MAPI profile.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close and re-open the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
  7. Connect the BlackBerry device to the desktop computer. The BlackBerry device user is now prompted to generate an encryption key.
