  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 and 4.1

Overview

When you assign a BlackBerry smartphone to a BlackBerry smartphone user, the BlackBerry smartphone is associated with the BlackBerry smartphone user’s email account and service books are installed. You can assign a BlackBerry smartphone in one of the following ways:

  1. With the Handheld Configuration Tool
  2. With a Wireless Enterprise Activation
  3. With the BlackBerry Desktop Manager

Note: Only one email address can be associated with a single personal identfication number (PIN) for BlackBerry smartphone users with accounts on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. If the BlackBerry smartphone user already has a previous BlackBerry smartphone assigned, these steps will remove that association and assign the new BlackBerry smartphone to that BlackBerry smartphone user.

With the Handheld Configuration Tool using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0

On the administration computer that runs the Handheld Configuration Tool, complete the following steps:

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. In the left pane of the Handheld Configuration Tool, click Handhelds.
  3. In the User Name list, select a BlackBerry smartphone user to assign to the BlackBerry smartphone.
  4. Click Assign Handheld to User.
  5. Select the BlackBerry smartphone for the BlackBerry smartphone user.
  6. Click OK.

With BlackBerry Manager using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1

On the computer running BlackBerry Enterprise Server, open the BlackBerry Manager.

  1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. Highlight the BlackBerry Enterprise Server in the left pane.
  3. Highlight the BlackBerry smartphone user account in the right pane.
  4. Click the Device Management link in the bottom pane.
  5. Click the Assign Device link under Device Management and select the appropriate BlackBerry smartphone to assign to this BlackBerry smartphone user.

With a Wireless Enterprise Activation

On the administration computer that runs BlackBerry Manager, the administrator deploys the BlackBerry smartphone wirelessly by generating an activation password and sending it to the BlackBerry smartphone user. Then, on the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry smartphone user enters the password provided by the admistrator to activate the BlackBerry smartphone wirelessly.

System Adminstrator Generates the Activation Password

  1. In BlackBerry Manager, select the server in the left pane.
  2. On the User Name list, select a user.
  3. Generate an activation password with one of the following procedures:
  • Right-click and select Generate and Email Wireless Activation Password. A message appears indicating the passwords have been generated. Click OK. The BlackBerry smartphone user receives the password in an email message.
  • Right-click and select Properties. The User Properties window opens. In the Wireless Activation Section, click Set Activation Password. In the window that opens, type a password to be sent to the BlackBerry smartphone user. Re-type the password to confirm it. From the Password Expired In drop-down list, select the expiration time. Click OK. Notify the BlackBerry smartphone user of the new password.

BlackBerry smartphone user Activates the BlackBerry smartphone wirelessly

  1. Turn the BlackBerry smartphone wireless transceiver on.
  2. On the BlackBerry smartphone, click the Enterprise Activation icon. The icon looks like a compass with four arrows pointing in different directions. If the icon is not displayed, click Options > Enterprise Activation.
  3. Enter your work email address and the password provided by the administrator.
  4. Open the menu.
  5. Select Activate from the menu. Your BlackBerry smartphone displays the activation progress. A message appears when the process is complete. Click OK.

  2. Move the mouse randomly as the new encryption key is generated.

  2. Click Yes.
  3. When prompted to generate a new encryption key, click OK.
