OverviewThe following table defines the synchronization software used with BlackBerry Connect.
Note: BlackBerry Desktop Manager is proprietary desktop software of RIM, and is not used with BlackBerry Connect devices. To connect to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server,
Synchronization Software The required proprietary synchronization software depends on which device is being used. For example,
BlackBerry Configuration Tool Names The BlackBerry Configuration Tool will be named differently, depending on the BlackBerry Connect device being used. For example:
Note: The version of the BlackBerry Configuration Tool must match your device type. Synchronization through Microsoft ActiveSync A Windows Mobile BlackBerry Connect device can only have one connection running at a time: a GPRS BlackBerry connection or an ActiveSync connection. Users can synchronize their device through ActiveSync to get their address book, memopad, tasks, files, and so forth, but they must first disable the BlackBerry service on their phone or the synchronization will stop responding. Newer versions of the software automatically disable the BlackBerry configuration upon detection of an ActiveSync connection. A user can use Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronize their personal information; however, the user should set up a Standard Partnership with their Desktop only, not their Exchange Server. A conflict may occur if a user is getting push email through BlackBerry and wireless data through ActiveSync simultaneously. Otherwise there is no issue with multiple pieces of desktop software installed on the same machine. |
