  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Microsoft® Exchange

Environment

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server version 4.0 to 5.0 for Microsoft® Exchange

Overview

To move mailboxes on a Microsoft® Exchange Server®, it is strongly recommended to use the Microsoft Exchange Server or Microsoft® Active Directory® tools. For instructions on the mailbox move procedure, go to support.microsoft.com and search for 821829.

If the Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Merge Wizard (ExMerge) or any other third-party application is used, the hidden BlackBerry folder in the mailbox may not be moved correctly or may be damaged. When this occurs, the BlackBerry smartphone user will be unable to send or receive email messages.

The administrator has the following options:

  • Activate a BlackBerry smartphone over the wireless network  for all affected BlackBerry smartphone users
  • Activate a BlackBerry smartphone by connecting it to a computer and using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager for all affected BlackBerry smartphone users
  • Contact a BlackBerry Technical Support representative for assistance

Note: If a mailbox is moved from one mailbox store to another within the same Microsoft Exchange Server, the BlackBerry smartphone user will not be able to send and receive email messages until the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server is restarted. See article KB00142 for more information on how to move a Microsoft Exchange mailbox.

Note: If a mailbox is moved to a different Microsoft Exchange Server, ensure permissions for the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server service account are set at the Microsoft Exchange Server and the mailbox store level. For more information, see article KB02276.

Important: Restarting the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see article KB04789.
